Austin Ice Cream Festival

8/13 | 10:00 am – 7:00 pm

The 10th Annual Austin Ice Cream Festival will be held at Fiesta Gardens (2101 Jesse E Segovia St.) and will offer ice cream and other frozen treats from ice cream shops around Austin. Attendees can play games and participate in contests like the Popsicle stick sculpture contest or homemade ice cream contest. Tickets are $15 for adults while kids 8 and under are free.

Bat Fest

8/20 | 4:00 pm – 12:00 am

Austin’s 12th Annual Bat Fest is a celebration of Austin’s 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats. Located at the Congress Bridge, the festival hosts a bat costume contest, live music, and food and drink vendors. The bats emerge around 7:00 pm – 8:45 pm and their emergence lasts around a half hour. General admission is TBD at the gate and only cash will be accepted. Children 8 years and under are free with an adult admission.

Quesoff

8/20 | 2:00 pm

Quesoff, Austin’s greatest queso cook-off is an afternoon of cheesy tasting at The Mohawk (912 Red River St.). Entry is free but a bag of chips costs $5. This year, queso contest categories are veggie, spicy, meaty, and wild card. If you plan to compete, enter by emailing your recipe to queso@mokawkaustin.com and include the category you would like to enter.

Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival

8/23 | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm

Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival, the world’s largest hot sauce festival, will be held at Fiesta Gardens (2101 Jesse E Segovia St.). Festival goers are able to sample hot sauces, view live cooking demonstrations, and enjoy live music all by making a donation to Capital Area Food Bank of Texas. The event is free with a donation of three non-perishable food items or $5.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents Circus XTREME

8/24 – 8/28 | Various times

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents Circus XTREME features spectacular performances from circus performers and exotic animals at the UT Frank Erwin Center (1701 Red River St.). Bring the whole family out to enjoy acts from high-wire wizards, BMX trick riders, a high-flying human cannonball and more. Visit Texas Box Office for show times and tickets.
